New visa opportunities for UK businesses expanding into Australia

The Australia-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) has introduced exciting changes to visa arrangements, particularly beneficial for UK citizens and permanent residents looking to expand their businesses into Australia.

By Richard Chatten-Hague

Under the FTA, UK citizens and permanent residents are now eligible for a subclass 482 visa for up to 4 years, irrespective of their nominated occupation. This visa category encompasses intra-corporate transferees, independent executives, and contractual service suppliers.

Furthermore, UK passport holders can take advantage of enhanced provisions under the Working Holiday Maker (WHM) program. Starting from 1st July 2023, UK passport holders aged 18 to 35 can apply for a Working Holiday visa. Moreover, from 1st July 2024, they can obtain up to three separate Working Holiday visas without fulfilling any specified work requirements.
